FIRE CUPPING
About Fire Cupping
Fire Cupping Therapy, also known as Cupping Therapy, is an ancient healing practice that has been used for centuries in places like Egypt, China, and the Middle East. It involves placing special cups on the skin to create suction, which helps improve blood flow, relieve pain, and promote healing in the body.
In fire cupping, a flame is briefly placed inside a glass or bamboo cup to heat the air. When the flame is removed and the cup is quickly placed on the skin, the cooling air creates a vacuum, pulling the skin upward. This suction increases circulation to that area, helping to relax muscles and reduce inflammation.
This therapy became more widely known after Olympic athletes, like Michael Phelps, were seen with round red marks on their bodies during the 2016 Rio Olympics—a common after-effect of cupping.
Cups can also be made of plastic, and suction may be created using a pump instead of fire. Both methods aim to bring fresh blood to tight or sore areas and speed up recovery.
Benefits of Fire Cupping Therapy:
Increases blood circulation and oxygen supply to tissues
Helps relieve muscle tension and stiffness
Reduces pain, especially in the back, shoulders, and legs
May help with detoxification by drawing out impurities
Promotes relaxation and reduces stress
Though the circular marks may look intense, the therapy is generally safe and not painful when performed by trained professionals. It’s often used alongside other treatments for sports injuries, fatigue, chronic pain, and stress relief.
